BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT -

Walking Through Grief Support Group

Hospice Care offers a fortnightly ‘Walking through Grief’ group, which seeks to offer mutual support to people who are experiencing grief following the death of a loved one.

Anyone who has been a client of Hospice or Palliative Care Services is welcome to join the group a couple of months (or more), after the death of their loved one.

The main aim of the walks is to allow people who have been bereaved to mutually support each other in dealing with the emotional, social and personal issues that confront them, while enjoying some gentle exercise and social contact in a safe and supportive group.

Each walk lasts approximately one hour, and concludes at a café where participants can buy a snack or drink.  In warmer months, we may have a picnic at the end of the walk instead.

The location of walks varies around the Hobart area, but we choose places that are not too steep, and where there are made paths and tracks. Participants don’t need to be super-fit, but obviously need to be able to manage a walk at a gentle pace for an hour’s duration.

Those people who are unable to walk, but who would still like to join a bereavement support group, are invited to join the group at the end of their walk at the café, or picnic.  Just phone the Hospice office to discuss your situation.

The walks are led by a Hospice staff member, assisted by 2 or 3 volunteers.  They are there to ensure everyone’s safety.

There is no cost to participate in the walks, you only need to pay for your drink or snack at the café where we finish the walk.
